1. Tell me about your experience with cloud platforms. Which ones have you used and for what projects?
Mention specific platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) with concrete examples of services used and projects delivered.
2. Describe a time when you had to troubleshoot a cloud infrastructure issue. How did you approach it?
Walk through your diagnostic process, tools used, root cause identification, and how you prevented it recurring.
3. What's the difference between horizontal and vertical scaling? When would you use each?
Explain both with trade-offs; mention auto-scaling groups, load balancers, and cost considerations.
4. How do you approach security in cloud environments?
Cover IAM, encryption, network segmentation, secrets management, compliance, and security monitoring practices.
5. Walk me through how you would design a highly available application architecture on your preferred cloud platform.
Include multi-region/AZ deployment, load balancing, databases, auto-scaling, monitoring, and disaster recovery.
6. Describe your experience with Infrastructure as Code. What tools have you used and what problems did it solve?
Discuss Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible; version control, reproducibility, and how it improved deployments.
7. Tell me about a time when you had to optimize cloud costs. What did you identify and how much did you save?
Mention reserved instances, spot instances, right-sizing, unused resources, or architectural changes with measurable impact.
8. How do you implement and monitor CI/CD pipelines in the cloud? What tools have you worked with?
Discuss Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, CodePipeline; testing strategies, deployment stages, and rollback procedures.
9. Explain how you would implement a disaster recovery strategy. What RPO and RTO targets would you recommend?
Define RPO/RTO; discuss backup strategies, replication, failover automation, and testing frequency.
10. How do you approach containerization and orchestration? What's your experience with Kubernetes?
Cover Docker fundamentals, K8s architecture (pods, services, deployments), networking, persistent storage, and scaling.
11. Design a microservices architecture for a high-traffic e-commerce platform. What services would you create and how would they communicate?
Cover service boundaries, API gateways, message queues, databases per service, monitoring, and security considerations.
12. You're experiencing latency issues in a multi-region cloud deployment affecting specific geographic regions. Walk me through your investigation and resolution.
